Twin Cities Derby in Minneapolis goes to Legends 3-0

Legends win 3-0 over City

St. Croix Legends took on Minneapolis City in the first half of the Twin Cities Derby at Edor Nelson field in Minneapolis 5/22 at 7:00 PM. The Legends came away victorious after blanking City 3-0.

Head Coach Tyler Oliver said "He felt the 3-0 score line was well deserved after a hot start." Man of the Match Nathan Donovan scored 2 goals and assisted the 3rd goal. Head Coach Tyler Oliver said "Having Nathan Donovan 1v1 makes it easy." He says "with how they press, the first 70 mins are going to be very important." He also noted "Everyone who came off the bench stepped up BIG." He especially noted "Cole Van Holland stepping up big and pocketing City's Striker."

The game started off electric with the Legends pressing hard. City found it very difficult to break out of its own end. In the first 15 mins the foul count was 5-0 in favor of the Legends as they kept controlling space. Coach Oliver's Press has really made it difficult for opposing teams and he notes his depth as the key to keep that up for 90 mins. Nathan Donovan scored the first goal and the lone goal in the first half off a fantastic through ball from Luca Contestabile. Donovan took the pass in stride and put it past the on rushing Goalie who was at the top of his box.

As the second half started, coach Oliver made 2 wing subs which helped keep the pressure high. The foul count continued to mount for City and the Legends constantly controlled space not giving City hardly anything. Nathan Donovan scored his brace early in the second half when Shea Bechtel broke down the sideline and placed a perfect cross to Donovan who set up the CB and flicked it past the Goalie for his second. The 3rd and final goal of the game came in the 90th Minute when Donovan broke end line and cut a ball back to Dylan Olson who slammed it home for the exclamation mark in the 3-0 victory.

St. Croix Legends go to 1-1-0 in the USL2 season. Next match they find themselves traveling to Racine, WI to play RKC (Defending USL2 Deep North Conference Champions) on 6/1 at 7:00 PM. In Donovan's man of the match interview he noted he will have to miss for his Brothers wedding (Congratulations to the Donovan family). Coach Oliver Noted the group as being very deep and players will step into the roles.
